Here is an easy, well loved and yummy treat for you to try out at home. You can eat healthy and this is great with simple carrot sticks (or whatever takes your fancy).
This recipe is super easy and much cheaper to make than buying hummus with preservatives from the store. Remember this will last about one week in your fridge. Sorry about the picture being so blurry – I’ll try and make sure I’m taking photos with my camera rather than my phone 🙂
1/4 cup of tahini
1/4 cup of freshly squeezed lemon juice (or 1/4 cup store bought lemon juice)
1 can of chickpeas (washed well and drained)
1/2 clove of garlic (chopped)
2 tablespoons of water
1/2 teaspoon of salt
1/2 teaspoon of cumin (also known as dhania powder)
2 tablespoons of olive oil
a little extra olive oil for finishing
sprigs of fresh parsley
sumac spice/paprika for serving
1. Add the tahini and lemon to your blender and blend for about a minute. Ensure you scrape down the sides of the blender and blend again for an additional 30 seconds.
2. Add the olive oil, cumin, salt and garlic to the mixture and process for 30 seconds. Again, scrape the sides of the blender and process for another 30 seconds.
3. Add in half the can of chickpeas and process for 1 minute. Scrape sides of the blender and and add the remaining chickpeas; process for additional 1-2 minutes until the mixture is smooth and thick. If the texture isn’t quite right, add two tablespoons of water and blend until you get the right consistency.
4. Add the hummus to your serving bowl or container, and add about a tablespoon of olive oil over the top, then sprinkle some sumac spice/paprika and garnish with parsley.
